An authentic antique calico wrapper dress. this exquisite and very uncommon Victorian era piece features a whimsical dandelion puff floral print pattern on a natural blue indigo homespun fabric with an intricate woven trim and exaggerated mutton sleeve. there is a fitted bodice built in underneath the exterior loose shell of a dress that can be cinched with the attached belt. other details include a side bucket pocket and a ruffled skirt hemline.
a true heirloom piece! we are so excited to receive this dress on consignment by a friend who inherited the dress, originally worn by their great great grandmother. Her name was Mary Gertrude (1859-1940) and lived in Silver Hills of Southern Indiana.

condition : AS FOUND with imperfections. garment overall is in great shape for nearing 150 years old but does shows some common signs of aging and storage wear such as holes on one of the sleeve puff, a tattered wrist on the other sleeve, and for some reason two of the vertical seam threads on back of skirt are starting to deteriorate (as pictured) and will need to be re-sewn if intending to wear, these are the only two seams we have noticed that have begun to do this. the fabric itself throughout the whole dress (aside from areas with holes) is still impressively strong. dye is still very dark and saturated. the belt button was more recently replaced by a previous owner with an acrylic button but we can provide a replacement antique mother of pearl button with purchase. the right shoulder seam has been expertly hand sewn back together by us at Craft Union. garment has been steam cleaned but a light odor may remain. last note worth mentioning is that both sleeves are completely lined with a another layer of indigo calico fabric in a different “coral” like pattern, this may be a good source of excess material to patch and restore the areas with holes if you wanted to!
